Thomas Aquinas College
Audrey and Anthon Buhl
Audrey and Anthony Buhl
Dear Friend,

Chances are you are unfamiliar with the name Anthony J. Buhl. A longtime professor of philosophy at a small, Midwestern college, a faithful husband and an avid photographer, he lived a humble, quiet life. Yet he has left a tremendous legacy.

Several years ago, when his wife, Audrey, passed away, Dr. Buhl established an endowment for student financial aid at Thomas Aquinas College. And when he, too, went to his eternal reward this June, he made the College the primary charitable beneficiary of their estate.

“I spoke many times with Anthony over the years,” recalls Tom Susanka, my predecessor as the College’s director of gift planning. “He had grown discouraged about the decline in faculty and student commitment to the truth at his school, and his eagerness for Thomas Aquinas College was kindled by what he was sure was its deep and fruitful concern to know and teach the truth. He was also buoyed by the stories of our many priestly and religious vocations.”

Although modest supporters of the College during their lifetime, through their legacy giving, the Buhls have contributed close to $1 million — a gift that will redound for decades as it makes a Catholic liberal education possible for future Thomas Aquinas College students, thus enabling the great good they will do in the Church and the world.

A member of the St. Thérèse Legacy Society, Dr. Buhl embraced the spirituality of its patroness, doing the smallest of deeds with the greatest of love — even in his in final days. Determined to aid Thomas Aquinas College students as much as possible, he opted to stay with a friend, rather than at a convalescent home, so as to protect the value of his estate. He offered his suffering for the College, and, in lieu of flowers, he asked that loved ones make a gift in his name to TAC.

We have reached the midpoint of St. Thérèse Legacy Month, during which we are asking friends to consider establishing their legacies, like Audrey and Anthony Buhl, in support of the students of Thomas Aquinas College. To do so, no gift, or even the promise of a gift, is necessary. We ask only that you complete this form, indicating your interest to learn more.

Would you please take this opportunity to learn more about the the St. Thérèse of Lisieux Legacy Society? In appreciation, we will send you a free copy of Stations of the Cross with Our Sister Saint Thérèse, by alumna author Suzie Andres (’87). Of course, the real measure of our gratitude will come in the prayers of our students, which include, in perpetuity, deceased members of the Society.

Already, they are praying for Audrey and Anthony Buhl, good friends and generous benefactors. Please keep the Buhls in your prayers as well, and please consider if you, too, would like to include Thomas Aquinas College in your estate.

Learn more!
Sincerely yours,
Paul F. Blewett
